Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin is the occurrence of erythema and/or abnormal stinging, burning, and tingling sensations (rarely pain or pruritus) in response to a variety of triggers, including physical ones like UV rays, heat, cold, and wind, chemical ones like cosmetics, soaps, water, and pollutants, and occasionally psychological ones like stress or hormonal ones like menopause (menstrual cycle).

·        Skin condition that is hypersensitive to stimuli, presented with itching, irritant, erythematic, and dryness.

·        Nearly half of the population has sensitive skin, which is fairly common.

·        The condition is more frequent in females than in males, but males are also frequently affected.

·        Skin sensitivity primarily affects the face, though it can also happen other areas

A line of evidence suggests that sensitive skin could be manifestations and/or epidermal functions (elevated transepidermal water loss rates, reductions in the stratum corneum hydration, increased skin pH levels, and so on), psychological stress, neuroimmunological dysfunction, but also other cutaneous and extracutaneous disorders.

Sensitive skin or eczema: How can you tell and what can you do about it? - CNA Lifestyle

 Symptoms of sensitive skin

Sensitive skin can look like the following:

·         Red, swollen and itchy skin

·         Skin redness that presents with or without swelling

·         Skin that stings or burns

·         Rashes or hives

·         Dry skin that may crack, blister or bleed

·         Patches of skin that feel dry, hard and leathery

What Is Sensitive Skin?

Common causes of sensitive skin include:

·         Allergic contact dermatitis – an allergic or immune reaction to an irritating chemical, allergen or other substance

·         Irritant contact dermatitis – the most common form of sensitive skin, it results in a nonspecific rash forming after exposure to an irritating chemical or any physical agent that damages the skin's protective outer layer

·         Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis – a chronic condition, which can flare up perodically, in which skin becomes rough and inflamed

"As mentioned, having dry skin can also ultimately lead to experiencing symptoms of sensitive skin, since having less moisture reduces how protected the skin is from external irritants,"

 Explains Dr. Jih.

How is sensitive skin treated?

If you have sensitive skin, the first steps to better managing it is to prevent triggering it through everyday sensitive skin care tips:

·         Avoid taking very hot showers

·         Choose sensitive skin body wash, face wash and moisturizer, as well as sunscreen formulated for sensitive skin

·         Avoid perfumes

·         Avoid scented beauty products and laundry detergents

Apply moisturizer regularly to prevent dry skin

Ø Cleanser.

Common cleaners contain chemicals that might harm skin that is already sensitive. Avoid goods that contain substances including bleach, alcohol, ammonia, ethylene glycol monobutyl acetate, sodium hypochlorite, and trisodium phosphate, as well as products that have warning labels about skin irritation. If in doubt, put on gloves!

Ø Cosmetics

• It is necessary to apply cosmetics less frequently or to use cosmetics that have soothing effects and/or contain just a small amount of irritants.Use Linacare products which are suitable for all type of skin.

Ø Shorten Shower

Your skin slowly loses its natural oils when exposed to water. It is more likely to be dry, constrictive, or cracked as a result. Choose a short, warm bath instead of a long, hot one when you take a bath. 15 minutes is more than enough.

Ø Choose clothing with care

Even if your skin is not sensitive, wool and other rough textiles might irritate. Wool may possibly result in an allergic reaction. Wool naturally contains lanolin, which is still present in some clothing. Choose softer options, such as cotton and silk.

Ø Moisturize

Irritated skin is a result of dry or sensitive skin. It may make certain illnesses, like eczema, worse. The greatest technique to prevent skin from drying out is to keep it moist at all times. After bathing, apply a rich but light moisturiser, such as an ointment or Rehydrating body cream-intensive or face cream which improves the texture and appearance of your skin and feeling sooft by providing longest lasting moisture available.

Ø Stress.

While it's common to feel busy or anxious occasionally, these sensations can have a negative impact on your overall health. Make an effort to reduce your stress so that your skin doesn't suffer. Use relaxation methods, get enough sleep, become active, and eat healthily. Your skin and body will appreciate it.

Got Skin Problems?

Is your skin itchy, Scratchy, or covered in a rash or strange spots? Skin inflammation, changes in texture or color, and spots may result from infection, a chronic skin condition, or contact with an allergen or irritant. Most are minor, but others can signal something more serious.Or use linacare rehydrating Body cream-intensive which will leave your skin feeling soft, supply and silky smooth by providing the longest lasting moisture available.
